This page will show the experiment my group has conducted to prove the mayor wrong. In a basic summary, I have created a miniature model of the statue out of coins. Then constructed cliffs out of chalk(Calcium Carbonate). And finally, I will hopefully make the cliffs collapse in one of the many experiments using a liquid with a pH of 3.5(Acetic Acid).
EXPERIMENT 1.
HERE, we added orange juice and chalk together! We did the experiment since it had a close Ph to 3.5 as acid rain!
Materials:
-1 bar of Chalk (ph: 8.2)
-1 TBS Concentrated Orange Juice (PH: More neutral had water)
-Quarter of orange squeezed (Ph around 3.5)
-Bowl
-Meat tender hammer
- Cutting board
-Cap of real orange juice
- Spoon
- Fork

EXPERIMENT 2.
HERE I added lemon and chalk together! We used this to test a way lower substance of Ph to see the reactions.
Materials:
-2 1/3 Tbs lemon Juice(Ph: 2.0)
-Meat tender Hammer
-Cutting Board

EXPERIMENT 3
HERE, I combined vinegar and crushed up chalk together! After observing the reaction, and seeing that the chalk bubbled a bit and sank to the bottom, I then drained out the vinegar. Then, I poured about 20 grams of baking soda onto the chalk. The reaction was that it turned back into its original state.
Materials:
- 3 spoonfuls (about 30 grams) of crushed chalk
- 1/3 cup vinegar
- 20 grams of chalk
- plastic spoon
- bowl

EXPERIMENT 4
HERE, I combined baking soda and vinegar together! This was just a basic experiment, since we have to find other substances with similar pH's.
Materials:
- 1 Bowl
- 17 mL Vinegar
- 15 grams Baking Soda
- 1 Medicine cup
